On Tuesdays, I will be posting a picture of how we sorted our weekly word work words in class to better support you and your child with working with these spelling patterns! Remember, students are sent home with a weekly word work list on Monday and are tested on these words on Friday. We do many activities with these words in class, but extra practice at home is so important! Here is an example of how we sorted our words last week:

Happy Monday!

Weekly Newsletter 10-05

Last week, we talked about using conjunctions to make compound and complex sentences. Students should be practicing using these conjunctions correctly in their writing at home.

For coordinating conjunctions, we remember the acronym FANBOYS (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So)

For subordinating conjunctions, we remember the acronym AWIBUS (Also, As, When, While, If, Because, Before, Unless, So, Since)

Conjunctions

In writing last week, we discussed using transition words and phrases. Here is a list of what we talked about. Students should be using these correctly in their writing at school and at home in their homework!

In reading, we worked on making inferences. Here are some anchor charts to support students in making inferences using text evidence.
